Case Study: BrettYoung

“I can make just about any report I want, and make it look the way I want.  Vivid Reports makes my job that much easier.”
Peter Smith, Controller

BrettYoung is a 75 year old family owned Global Agribusiness with numerous facilities across Western Canada. BrettYoung’s 200 employees export a diverse mix of canola, forage, soybean, and turf seed to 40 countries around the world. In addition, they provide a wide range of products and services to the professional turf and reclamation industry.

BrettYoung is a progressive organization that invests in new technologies and innovative solutions to stay ahead of the competition.

When BrettYoung decided to make the move from Microsoft Dynamics GP®, to MS Dynamics NAV®, they recognized the need for a more robust financial reporting solution to help streamline their processes.

Corporate Controller Peter Smith explains, “When I first came on, the main goal was to integrate the new ERP system. At the time we were using FRx® for our financial reporting, but found that it just didn’t suit our needs. We needed to design several reports that would link together within a single workbook, and wanted the ability to format and produce graphs within Excel® without having to import the information. We found that most of the competitive products just mimicked the Excel® environment.”

Brett Young selected Vivid Reports for Microsoft Dynamics NAV®. Initially they purchased basic and report builder licenses, but have since added budget input functionality as well.
Controller Peter Smith notes, “Implementation and training went quite smoothly; all told we were up and running within a day.” BrettYoung has created numerous Vivid Reports which are provided to the management team on a monthly basis. Management can now easily monitor the organization’s financial performance, and find the information they need to explain deviations from historical trends or plans.

BrettYoung’s Finance team is able to utilize their Excel skills to create powerful reports with graphs and the formatting they desire. Users are able to access their reports from a central network folder, and login to Vivid Reports within Excel to begin analyzing the details. On after sales support, Peter Smith commented, “I can usually find what I need in the user manual, but when I do need personal support the response is quick and things get resolved.”
